The £5 lunch challenge- Wholefoods, Tofu with Brown Rice & Edamame beans

London lunch reviewLocation: 69-75 Brewer Street, London, W1F 9US.

Opening Times: 07.30-21.00 Mon-Fri, 09.00-21.00 Sat, 11.30-18.30 Sun

My Chosen Lunch Option: Tofu with brown rice, edamame beans, carrot, Greek salad and feta

Cost: £5.49

What I liked about the meal: Finding a lunch option in the Mayfair or Piccadilly area for under £5 has proven to be tougher than I expected. Whole foods in Soho is no more than a 5 minute walk from the Nordic Balance gym which not too far to travel during a lunch break. Although I was having a take away option I found the staff extremely knowledgeable, friendly and helpful when I asked how the lunch menu worked. I would usually choose the meat option (£6.49) but wanted to stay as close to the budget as possible and went Veggie!! The meal is served in a cardboard container with a wooden knife and fork which doesn’t snap in your hand like a plastic set tends to do. The food was very fresh and tasty and the portion size was a decent size. Even for someone like me that eats a lot!

What I didn’t like about the meal: The only negative would be that the store can get very busy in the peak lunch hour so be prepared to queue for 5 minutes or so.

Overall Rating:  9/10 – Not too far to travel and although I went 49p over budget I thought this was a healthy, nutritious lunch option and good value for money.
